Muscle Mass is Your Body’s Wealth

I am at an inflection point of struggling with my health for the past 6 weeks, with viruses and infections and a bout of stomach flu. When I have felt up for it, I have workout out in a very mindful way to not deplete my body but bring my health back up. It is during times like these where I know I am losing some muscle mass, strength, and fitness that I am so grateful for the baseline health that I can draw from.

When I have to opportunity to go hard in the gym, I go hard because not only is it extremely fun and rewarding in the moment, but when anyone can put energy into building strength, agility, speed, muscle mass, and fitness, they are growing their body’s wealth of health. Imagine a scenario where you are hospitalized for a month, or longer. Now imagine that you are starting that period off in very good shape with a high bone density and well-muscled. Over the course of your sickness, your health metrics will decline but if you began with a surplus, you will end up ok and rebounding at the end.

Life presents challenges and periods of intense difficulty for all of us, which is why we want to take advantage of all opportunities to grow our health in the form of functional strength training whenever we can.
